Caleb's birthday began with our traditional birthday muffin. He seemed a little taken aback when all four of us piled into his room with cameras flashing, singing the birthday song. Once Caleb saw the muffin being offered, he was all smiles. Caleb seemed to like being fed in his crib!
Here are a few pictures I got of him early in the day wearing his "Birthday Boy" shirt.
After Caleb's morning nap, I surprised him with his birthday balloons. After seeing his reaction, I realized that I may have not needed to do anything else for his birthday. He went absolutely NUTS! He was giddy and giggly every time he saw his balloons. In fact at lunchtime, he had one hand on his food and one hand on his balloons.
We got Caleb a sand and water table. Three words..... HE LOVED IT! And so did his brother and sister!
For the actual party, my parents, my sister, and some friends of ours joined us to celebrate. The kids played in the water in the backyard while we grilled some burgers and dogs. Thankfully the weather was gorgeous and we enjoyed sitting outside. It was nice and relaxing.
Following dinner, we headed inside to let Caleb open his gifts. He was a champ at unwrapping gifts. He knew exactly what to do. Since Saturday, he has enjoyed playing with his new ball, his puppy toy, building blocks, and books.
Then came the cake! I made Caleb a monkey cake. It was super easy to make and I even made the fondant myself. I think it turned out cute, but I am a little biased.
Singing "Happy Birthday"
Caleb was hilarious to watch as he ate his birthday cake. Just check out the progression of pictures. It tells the story better than I can.
When he finished we literally took him outside chair and all to spray him off with the water hose. I was still digging chocolate out of his nose the next day. He had it EVERYWHERE!
It was such a marvelous day celebrating Caleb's first year! He is such a blessing to us all. Here is a very long slideshow I made of pictures from birth to one year. If you are up for 100+ pictures, then enjoy. If not, feel free to skip ahead.
Quick update on what Caleb has been up to this past month......
He has been into everything. He is one curious little monkey for sure. His newest fascination is climbing up onto the big rocking chair in his room. He will climb up there, look at me, and smile like he is saying "Look what I did". Of course, he also loves to push the boundaries and stand in the rocking chair. So our obedience training just went up a notch!
The other day things got quiet ,and in our house when things get quiet there is trouble brewing somewhere. Sure enough, we found Caleb sitting in the middle of Isaac and Julia's Lego table. When we walked in he turned around and smiled exposing the Lego man in his mouth. That Lego man has no idea what unpleasant journey we just rescued him from!
So there you have it.... Caleb is a very curious, into everything, sign language learning, cutie patootie! We adore this little guy so much!
