"Saw the Water Tower First!!!"

If you don't know my family, then you may read that title and say, "WHAT?!!!" Ok, so many years ago this game started in my family. The way I remember it starting was when we would go visit my grandparents in Morton, Texas. They had a small little house very near the water tower. As most kids do, my sisters and I would continually ask, "Are we there yet?". My parents finally came up with a way to focus our attention. They told us that when we saw the water tower then we would be there. That turned into a competition of course...... who could see the water tower first. As the years progressed, the game changed into the one that saw the water tower first would get the next meal from the other passengers.

We have taught Isaac this game and he is finally catching on. Yesterday we were on our way to meet Gabe when Isaac spotted the water tower and proudly proclaimed that he would get to make dinner for us. Ok I thought - that is a new variation of the game. I didn't really think he would go through with it, but when we got home he asked Gabe and I to go hide while he made us dinner. He wanted to do this completely by himself. He made peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Well, his had peanut butter and honey. Gabe's was just peanut butter and mine was just honey. Isaac did give Gabe and I permission to add to our delicious sandwiches!!!He was so proud of himself for doing it all on his own. What a big boy. I told him that we could start planning one meal a week that he could make or help make for the family. We may have a little chef on our hands!!Good thing, because Mama doesn't like to cook!!!

don't let mom read this...she always worried about even white bread being too "gummy" and could choke us...not to mention peanut butter and HONEY on bread!!!

For the record: my sandwich was great! No choking!

...get it? 'choking' - 'joking' ... ah nevermind.

And being one of the sisters that got to participate in this game, I do remember it well!
I like Isaac's variation of the game...maybe he'll make me a honey and peanut butter sandwich when I see him next!

We really thought our 13 year-old son created this game as a toddler. I guess several have had similar iteas... He was very interested in water towers, why they have flashing lights etc. Our version is you state "Water tower, I saw it first." We added a point system. If the tower is on your side of the car, it counts for 1 point. If it is on the opposite side, it counts for 2 points. We often play teams based on the side of care we are sitting on.
