Six Months

Caleb is six months old. I know I say it every month, but I can not believe Caleb is growing up so fast. This month has been packed full of changes and growth for Caleb. So much to share, so lets get started!

The name of the game this month is "Rollie Pollie" He finally mastered rolling from his back to his tummy and there is no stopping him now. He is all over the place. No need to put a blanket down for him to play on, he will be across the room before you know it. He has just recently started getting up on his hands and knees and rocking back and forth. Starting to get ready for crawling soon! That will be "fun" trying to keep all the legos and polly pockets out of his reach!! Caleb has also started sitting up by himself a bit. Still falls over, but he seems to enjoy sitting up. Caleb is such a wiggler. Always moving, kicking, squirming, rolling...... he is going to be a hand full when he does learn to crawl and walk. Watch out world!!!

He has been a bit of a grump this week. The dreaded teething has begun and today his first little tooth started to poke through. At least we have something to show for all the squealing and screaming this week. It has been a bit hairy at times! So not like him to be as fussy as he has been this week. But I can't complain too much because it has not affected his sleep at all - thus not affecting mine!!!

Caleb has been on solids for a month now and will pretty much eat anything I give him. Some things he prefers, like sweet potatoes, pears, apricots, avacados and bananas. Some things he tolerates, like zuchinni squash, apples, and butternut squash. And some things he turns his nose up at, like plums (my fault - they were a bit tart) and brocolli (that's a strong taste to get used to). I have given him a sippy cup at meals to practice with. He figured out how to drink from it but does not have the motor skills yet to hold it by himself. I also introduced veggie puffs. So funny to watch a baby try to figure out how to pick up something like that and try to get it into their mouth. I have it on video. Pretty hilarious!

He has started having a little bit of separation anxiety. He cries when I leave his side, which makes it hard to get things done around here. He would much rather be held and talked to and played with. But who doesn't?!! He has also started to cry in the nursery. I went in last Sunday to feed him and the workers said that something was just not right with him. He was really fussy and just seemed unhappy. Not like him at all. So I took him with me thinking he might be getting sick. (now knowing the week we have had, he was teething) He sat in my lap throughout Sunday School just as happy as he could be and even snoozed for awhile. Gabe said he thought Caleb just had a case of "missing Mommy-itis" Maybe! Would it be bad of me to say that I love that. I love that he is happy with me. I love when he looks into my eyes and touches my face. It makes me feel like he is saying, "I love you Mommy" even though he does the same thing to strangers. But whatever, he loves me and I know that. I sure do love and adore my baby boy!

Caleb has been increasingly interested in his big brother and big sister. They love to make him giggle and he obliges quite often. The other day when he was screaming all day and wouldn't let me console him in any way, I just put him in the bouncy and went about cleaning the kitchen. I apologized to the kids (especially Isaac, who was trying to do school at the time) and said that we would just have to listen to him cry for awhile. Julia dragged out some chairs and blankets to make a puppet theater. She put on a cute little puppet show and sure enough Caleb stopped crying and sat there contentedly watching his big sis. So sweet! Isaac and Julia are so in love with him, and I am pretty sure the feeling is mutual!

We went in for his 6 month check up yesterday. He weighs 17 pounds and is 26 1/4 inches long. Even though he started out on the big side, he is now in the 40th percentile. He still seems big to me, especially in length. He grows out of his clothes so fast. I am ready for spring and summer to get here so we won't have to worry so much with the length of his pants being too short. Everything else checked out great at the doctor. He is a healthy, happy baby boy!!

So on to month seven. Before we know it he will be turning one! Sniff, sniff! I feel so blessed to be able to stay at home and enjoy every moment with my kids. They grow up too fast and I am forever grateful that I have a front row seat to watch it all!

Just for fun, here is a picture of Caleb at one month old. See how much he has changed?!!

Our little photo session earlier didn't quite go as planned. It was all my fault. This was right before nap. He is extra tired today because he hasn't had but a few cat naps all day. So it was really hard to get any picture of him , much less one of him smiling. The closest I got was this little smirk in the picture above. The picture below is how we ended our photo session.....

So we put the camera away and let the little one get some rest......

By the way, Caleb loves to sleep on his belly and has just recently been tucking his knees up under him and sticking his little bottom in the air. Oh so cute! I love him!
