Nine Months

Oops, I'm a little late with this one! We were out of town when Caleb turned 9 months. First we went to Belton for my nephew, Kendall's graduation. Then to Coleman to see my folks. Then to Abilene for my niece, Meagan's graduation. Then to Arkansas to see Gabe's family for a week. Phew - I am exhausted just typing that out. So needless to say, we have been a bit busy this month. Here is my belated update on little Caleb Boochie Boy.

His shirt says, "I do all my own stunts"

I have always called Caleb my little monkey. From chunky monkey at birth to a very curious monkey now. He is in to EVERYTHING! And a room full of age appropriate toys is not good enough for him. He could care less about his "baby" toys. He knows where to get the good stuff...... in his big brother and big sister's room! I think he has a sensor or something programmed into him. He knows the exact moment the gate is open on their bedroom door. Then he hightails straight to the legos! I watched him one day without him knowing it. He crawled half way into their room, stopped looked back at the door (with a look of mischief on his face), and seeing the coast was clear he proceeded to devour brother's beloved legos. Such a stinker!

He has done pretty well with being told no, but lately he has begun to protest. Let's just say, he does not like having anything taken away from him. Caleb will tense his body, make this funny grunting sound, and cry. Thankfully, at this age he is still easily distracted and can be swayed away from danger quite easily.

Though I think Caleb is big for his age, he really isn't - according to the growth charts at the doc's that is. He is just under 20 lbs and is in the 40th-50th percentile for height and weight. I think Caleb seems big to me because Isaac was smaller at this age. He was barely 20lbs at 12 months. All checked out well at the doctor. My only concern is a flat spot and bulge on the back of his skull. This has been there since he was an infant. The doctor said his sutures are still open, so the problem may correct itself. If it gets worse, we may go see a specialist. But my doc didn't seem concerned at all. So I won't worry too much about it right now.

Caleb now has 4 teeth - all four front and center. Pretty sure he is working on a few more. From my experience with Isaac and Julia as babies, once they got past the first four, I never really noticed when they were cutting the others. Just didn't seem to bother them as much. Hope that's the case with Caleb.

Caleb has a new trick..... spitting food! Lovely!! He has now decided to balk at a few things I give him to eat. Even with the spitting, he is still a good eater and eats most of what I give him. He has recently started to eat a little bit of table food and enjoys to no end making a mess of it. But that's how they learn, right?!

Still not much signing. He can sign "all done" when he wants to, but hasn't picked up on the other signs. We will get there, eventually.

Caleb is very much a people person and would much rather be with us than apart from us. Even when we leave a room, he is right on our heels. He is happiest when being held. Imagine that! He never attached to a lovie. Isaac has Bear and Julia has Baby. I have tried to offer "friends" to Caleb, but he just sees them as toys not as comfort items. However, he is starting to show some attachment to his blanket. This blanket is the one my Mom made for him before he was born and is the one we carried him home in. So Caleb may be a blanket boy!

This is at the science museum in Hot Springs, AR. He was absolutely fascinated!

We have taken Caleb to the pool several times. He LOVES it! He enjoys splashing around, trying to drink the water, and trying his hardest to climb out of the floatie and into the water. It amazes me that he has actually gotten halfway out of his floatie. Hard to keep my eye on him, and Julia, and Isaac at the same time. Pool time proves to be more work than pleasure, but the kids love it.

Caleb has been standing since he started to crawl, but he has no desire right now to learn to walk. Phew! I'm not rushing him! I have tried to walk with him holding his hands and he fights it after awhile. I also got down his walker toys. He tolerates it for a second, then gives up. Again, not rushing him. I already have my hands full as it is.

Caleb is a darling little boy with a bright smile and a heart melting giggle. I cherish every moment I am blessed to have with my children. I don't want to miss a second, because it all goes by way too fast.

Oh, and did I mention he just loves to swing?!!
