Missionaries and Pirates

This morning as we read Someone Awesome, we discussed this question....

Why does God allow bad things to happen?

You may be wondering how we got from that question to missionaries and pirates. Get comfy and give this a read. I wish I could have recorded the conversation and discussion that followed this question. Very interesting and insightful. Julia just shrugged her shoulders and honestly said, "I don't know". Isaac, on the other hand, wanted to dig a little deeper. So we did. (note that this is just a sampling of our conversation.... it actually went on much longer and included much more!)

Isaac first said that God gives us choices and when we make bad ones, we have bad consequences. True. But then I proposed this question... "what about when something bad happens and that person did nothing to cause it?" That stumped him. (as it does for most adults)

This led into a discussion about choosing God and believing in Jesus as our Savior. Which led into a discussion about heaven and hell. Isaac told me that he was sure he would spend forever with God because he knew in his heart that Jesus saved him. That led into a discussion about living our life as a "light unto the world". Being different than the "world" so that they will take notice and we can tell them why. (Hang in there, I am getting to the missionaries and pirates part.)

Isaac said that he knows that God wants him to tell people about Jesus. This led into a discussion about what wonderful plans God has for him and what a wonderful thing it is that he has chosen to believe in and follow God. Then I asked Isaac, "what do you think God has planned for you to do for Him?" Isaac's answer.....

"To be a missionary to pirates. They make all kinds of bad choices and they need to know about God and Jesus"

Before you oohhh and ahhhh too much, this is what followed that statement....

"I would live with them and trick them so I could capture them and lock them up and make them listen to me about God."

Ok, so maybe his evangelical strategies need to be tweaked a bit but he has a good heart. He has a heart to follow his Creator. Even if it means sharing the good news with pirates!

I just love the way Isaac's brain works...so analytical at such a young age!
