Trip to the Coast

We went down to the coast a couple of weekends ago. The kids have been begging to go to a real beach for about a year now. The closest they have ever gotten was a shore of a river or the play beach at the zoo. That just wasn't going to cut it any longer. So to Rockport we went! We went to Rockport Beach park which was very clean and family friendly. It is also in a bay so the waves are manageable and safe. The only thing that threatened to ruin our fun in the sun was when Isaac got stung by a jelly fish. Ouch! He was back to the beach about 30 minutes later, no problem! We enjoyed building sand castles, swimming, looking for sea shells and critters, and picnicking at the beach. Wonderful day!

Saturday night we took the ferry to Port Aransas to eat dinner at Jay's Seafood and Spaghetti Works. A friend suggested this restaurant and it was good. Of course I just shared a pizza with Caleb and Julia, because I don't eat seafood! Blah! Riding the ferry with the kids was fun, but waiting in line to ride the ferry.... not so much. Wouldn't want to do that everyday.

The next day we headed over to Corpus Christi to visit the USS Lexington. Given the choice between this and the aquarium, the kids both chose the Lexington. I didn't quite know how Caleb would handle a two hour tour through the ship, but yet again he surprised me and loved every minute of it.

Funny thing is, of all the activities we had planned for the weekend, the kids (especially Isaac) thought staying at a hotel was the BEST! As you can tell, we don't travel much! You should have seen their eyes Saturday morning when we took them to the continental breakfast. I do believe they thought they had died and gone to heaven. It's the little things that get my kids excited!
