Isaac participated in the AWANA pinewood derby last Saturday. We did this with him a few years back, but he was too young to really get it and enjoy it. This year he gave it another try. If you don't know what a pinewood derby is, basically they give you a block of wood and some wheels. Your job is to design and cut out a car for the big race. Isaac and Gabe have been working on his car for a few weeks. He modeled it after one of his Hot Wheels. Gabe was great about letting Isaac make all the decisions for his car. He is not the type of Dad that does all the work for the child. Isaac's car won one heat but no trophies. He was a little bummed about that. Most of the cars that did win seemed like they had a lot of Dad's help if you know what I mean. That's okay, my kids need to learn to loose as much as they need to learn to win. What is important is that this gave Gabe and Isaac focused time together and that is more valuable than a $2 trophy.
