(Gabe is out of town for a few days, so I am all alone with the kids)
6:35 a.m. I was sleeping soundly tucked under my warm covers.
6:36 I was jolted awake when the phone rang. First thought, "Who in their right mind would call before 7 a.m.?" Second thought, "What's wrong?"
6:37 Phone is still ringing as I stumble through the darkness half asleep tripping over toys and who knows what else to finally find the phone, but the answering machine has already picked up. I realize it is the security company AGAIN!
**Little back story. A few weeks ago Gabe decided we needed a security system. We recently had a robbery in our neighborhood. Actually it was across the street. His concerns were valid. But a few days later, we decided we couldn't afford the monthly payments. So the company came and took the equipment out of our house. Here is the catch. The company that sales and installs the equipment is different than the company that monitors the signal. Somehow these two companies have not communicated our cancellation of services. The monitoring company keeps calling us ALL THE TIME telling us that they have had a signal failure. Well, duh! We have repeatedly told them that we no longer have the service and to please stop calling us, especially at the wee hours of the morning. That brings us back to today**
6:38 I try to dial the security company's number and realize it is an 888 number and I can't call this number on our land line. I was a wee bit sleepy still.
6:39 I search in vain for my cell phone so I can call these silly people back. Not happy that this is how my day has begun. I was so hoping to sleep in a little since yesterday morning I had to wake up at 4 a.m. when Isaac got sick and threw up everywhere... twice.
6:40 I finally call this company and am annoyed that I have to go through a computer prompting thing just to talk to a human. They have the nerve to call me at 6:30 a.m and then not answer their phone when I call. (a bit irrational I know, but I was still sleepy and very perturbed) So as I am talking to the company trying to straighten out this misunderstanding, my land line starts to ring again. I can't get to it but hear the machine pick up.
**Another little back story. We all know by now that Caleb is a bit mischievious and into everything. Well apparently a few weeks ago he got ahold of our phone receiver, punched a few buttons, and somehow re-recorded our outgoing message. Just imagine what his recreation sounded like.**
6:45 Back to the phone ringing and the machine picking up. Little did I know that when the security company didn't get an answer at our house the first time they immediately called my Mother-in-Law. I will give you one guess as to who was calling my land line while I was on the cell phone with the security company. Yep, my Mother-in-Law. The machine picks up and she hears Caleb's voice on the message and she is thinking Caleb really answered the phone. Remember, I have no idea that the security company has already called her. She,on the other hand, thinks that something is terribly wrong. See it from her point of view.... she gets a call from our security company, she calls and gets the toddler on the phone. She thinks we have all been hurt so bad that we can't even get to the phone. She does the only thing I would have done in this situation.... she called the police.
7:00 I am finally off the phone with the security company and now dealing with my children who were starting to get up for the morning. Apparently during this time, my Mother-in-law called my cell phone. I didn't hear it because my phone is on vibrate. Great, let's just add to the drama!!
7:15 All of the sudden I hear a loud knock on the door and the door bell rings. Really? What is going on? It was a police officer come to check on us and follow up on my Mother-in-Law's call. He was none to happy to see me and seemed very perturbed to be dealing with me. The feeling was mutual. I tried to explain to him why I hadn't answered my Mother-in-Law's phone call and that I hadn't barely had time to call her back before the cops arrived. I know I keep repeating myself but this is an important part of the story...I had no idea that she had received the phone call from the security company. When the cop told me that my Mother-in-Law had called them, I thought "Wow, I do believe she overreacted just a bit" The cop then starts grilling me about where my husband was and who was in the house with me. Blah, blah, blah. I was frustrated, embarrassed, and totally done with this day and it was barely 7:15 in the morning.
I finally talked to my Mother-in-Law and figured out what had happened, but boy was it a rude awakening this morning. Did not set a great tone for the day. I kid you not, I literally went back to bed and asked the kids to come in and kiss me awake so we could start this day over. Much better.
