Isaac has been participating in karate for about a year and a half now. Though he has accomplished some things in karate and had some high moments, overall he didn't ever get really excited about it. In fact, it has been a struggle to get him to "give it his all". Gabe and I had Isaac stay in karate this long in order to help him learn how to persevere, set goals, and work hard at something. Sad to say, our efforts didn't pan out the way we had hoped. Karate just may not be the avenue for Isaac to learn these skills. After much discussion and debate, we let Isaac decide to stay with karate or not. He chose to stop. Up until recently, Isaac has not been interested in team sports. We tried soccer a few years back and he hated it. Actually he hated the attention from the crowd at the games. He was only 5, so we can't hang our hat on that one experience. Now at 8 he thinks he is ready for team sports again. So this week he began football practice. He is playing on a team through Upward Sports. (great organization by the way) After trying basketball at our church's sports camp, he is now excited to play on the Upwards basketball team early next year. And to top it all off, he is planning to give soccer another try next spring. So I think we have sports covered for him. He also wants to take drum lessons. I can totally see him being good at drumming. He is constantly keeping a beat and and banging on things. I don't quite know what I am getting myself into with letting him take drum lessons, but we shall see how it goes!!
Julia became enthusiastic with gymnastics last year. We took a break over the summer and she couldn't wait to get back at it, especially after watching the Olympics this past summer. She was in awe of Gabby Douglas and says she is going to stick with gymnastics until she is that good. We changed gyms this year to one that is closer to our home, but she liked her coach and had a good time in her new class this past week. Julia has also decided she wants to take dance again. We tried dance with her a few years ago, but she bored of it quickly. I found an organization in the area that is super cheap for dance so we are going to let her try it again. She starts dance in a couple of weeks. Her main goal with dance to get on stage. She must get that from her Papa!!
And what has Caleb been up to??? Being such a light to this family. He is a ball of energy and joy, creating memorable moments wherever he goes. He has been busy being a "big boy". He has started preschool with me at home and LOVES it. He constantly looks forward to our school time. He is finally fully potty trained. Whoop, whoop!!! And lately he has been telling me, "When I was a baby I couldn't talk. I a big boy now, I can talk" So as you can tell his language skills are coming right along! He is super excited to meet his new little brother. He hugs my belly all the time and talks to Benjamin. I can't wait to introduce these two in a few months. They are going to be quite a pair!!
