Yesterday was our 100th day of school for this year. Actually, it was the 100th day of school that we remembered to count on our number chart. Either way, it was a way to recognize all of the hard work Isaac and Julia have put into this school year and a fun way to celebrate with friends. We set up the slip and slide and the sprinkler in the backyard. We also had a shaving cream table, bubbles, water balloons, sidewalk chalk, water guns, etc. You name it, we probably had it out to play with yesterday. Lots of messy, wet fun!!
I also had some 100 day crafts inside, like 100 glasses and 100 cheerio necklaces. It was all well worth the effort and fun was had by all.
We are not finished with school for the year. We will continue to do school through July or August, then take a break when the baby arrives. Isaac has learned so much this year. Here are a few of his accomplishments so far this school year......
*reading at a 1st grade level
*spelling words on his own and writing messages and short stories
*completed kindergarten handwriting
*Skip counts by 2's, 5's, and 10's
*Addition plus 1
*Doubles Addition
*Addition of Tens and Hundreds
*Tally Marks
*Solving for the Unknown
*And much ,much more!!
And let's not forget about Julia! Even though her school this year was hit and miss, she too has learned quite a bit. She is now learning how to write her name and knows the letters in her name as well as the sounds they make. She recognizes most of the letters and numbers through 10. She has overheard Isaac learning to read, so Julia now "sounds out" words. Like if she sees a picture of a butterfly she will say.... "Bu.. uh... tt..er..f..l...y" So funny to hear her version of "reading"!! She sounds out every possible syllable and makes up some of her own!!Julia has always been very strong with fine motor tasks. She picked up a crayon with the correct pencil grip at 18 months old. As a teacher, that amazes me!
I am so very proud of Isaac and Julia! It is a privilege and blessing to be their Mother and Teacher!!!
Here are some pictures from our "100 Day Celebration"!!

For all commenters to follow (and especially for my wife!) I want to say "Wow" and make known how uber-impressed, proud and excited I am by all the hard work that my wife does. I've always told anyone who asks, "We don't home-school out of any animosity for public school but because the best teacher our kids could have already lives here - their MAMA!" YOU ROCK, BABE!
Could have completely done without the picture of me! Thanks for a great day!
Thank you Gabe - your words mean a lot to me. Thank you for having confidence in me. I love you too!! In fact, I love you 1st!!
