Easter Story Cookies

Isaac, Julia, and I just made Easter Story cookies together. With all the egg hunts, parties, and activities I thought it was important to stop and reflect on the significance of Easter. This is the first time we have made these cookies and I do believe this will become an annual tradition. There may be different versions of this recipe, but I got mine from allrecipes.com.

I asked the kids to tell me what they thought we would need for this recipe. They named everything, except the Bible. At first they weren't quite sure why we would be needing God's Word.

Preheat oven to 300 F

Place 1 cup pecan halves in resealable plastic baggie. Crush pecans into small bits. Read John 19:1-3

We talked about the suffering Jesus endured as we crushed the pecans.

Put 1 teaspoon vinegar into a medium bowl. Read John 19: 28 - 30

After I read the verses, we talked about what Jesus had to drink. I gave them sips of vinegar to taste. They puckered up pretty fast.
Add egg whites to the vinegar. Read John 10:10 - 11

Sprinkle salt into the egg whites. Read Luke 23:27

**After I read the verses, I asked how they thought those verses related to the salt. Isaac immediately knew that our tears are salty.**

So far, the mixture isn't very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat mixture with mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3

As we watched the mixture transform, we talked about how we are transformed and washed cleaned... white as snow.

Fold in crushed pecans. Drop by teaspoons onto parchment paper lined baking sheet. Read Matthew 27:57 - 60

Place cookies in the oven, close the door, and turn the oven off. Read Matthew 27: 65-66
Julia wrote the sign

Go to bed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

In the morning, open the oven and take out the cookies. Read Matthew 28: 1-9
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8
