ISAAC DID IT!!!!!! A few weeks ago I started a 'Good Choices Jar' for Isaac. The reason for this is because I realized that I had been focusing on his negative behavior too much and not applauding and celebrating his good choices and behavior often enough. It was a way to encourage him, as well as remind me to praise him more often. If you are a parent, I am sure you understand how easy it is to get stuck in a rut, especially dealing with difficult behavior. So the idea behind the jar is simply this..... when Gabe or myself "caught" Isaac making a good choice, he would get to put a pom pom ball in his jar. The only rule is that Isaac was not allowed to tell us when to "catch" him making good choices, which he tried to do several times!! When we first started the 'Good Choices Jar' I let Isaac choose something special he would like to do or place to go as his reward for filling up his jar. He chose to go to open gym at J & R Gymnastics in New Braunfels. He is a high energy boy and that place was so fun for him the last time we went. He got to climb, jump, and swing to his little hearts content. So that has been his goal all along, and last night he earned 4 balls for good choices at AWANA and that did it. He made it to the top!!!!! I can not describe to you in words how proud of him I am and how good it feels to celebrate his accomplishment with him. Way to go Isaac!!!!!! We will be going on our reward field trip to J&R on Monday. I will be sure to take some pictures and post them next week.

That is such a great idea!! And HOORAH for Isaac in filling up his Good Choices jar! Have you seen an improvement in his behavior with using this?
Congratulations! how exciting to be caught doing good and now getting to go to J&R Gym. Yay. Look forward to seeing how much fun that is going to be.
To answer your question Karen, yes and no. He still struggles with self-control, but worked hard to make better choices sometimes. The main point is that our focus has switched to the positive behavior instead of always being on the negative behavior.
way to go Isaac! does mom and dad get to swing and run and jump and play too, or do they have to fill up their jars before they can join in?
I think Gabe and I have "paid our dues" and fully deserve a day of running, jumping, and climbing.
