Trip to Houston

I just realized that I have not posted pictures from our trip to Houston over spring break. No time like the present. It is stormy, we are finished with school, and I have no desire to be productive. So why not spend my time blogging?!! Totally procrastinating, I admit!!

Well, we headed to Houston a few weeks ago. Our main goal was to take the kids to the Johnson Space Center. If any of you remember Isaac's birthday party, you will remember that he is very into all things space related. So this is sort of a belated birthday gift to him (and the family of course) Our day started out on the tram tour. We were advised to do this first because the wait can get long later in the day. Ha - I don't think that was the case that day. It was very cold and rainy. We were the first to get on the tram and had to wait what seemed like forever for the tram to fill up with enough people to actually leave. IT WAS COLD!!! We made the best of it and tried to get the most out of the tour. At one point Julia snuggled down inside Gabe's coat and went right to sleep. She had the warmest and coziest spot. She looked like a little kangaroo in Papa's pouch. Precious!

Once we returned to the Space Center after the tour we just dug in and started exploring. They had this huge playscape that was crawling with kids - mainly older school kids. Didn't phase Isaac, he went right in and had a blast. Julia wanted to go as well. I was a little worried about her up there with all those big kids. She could get trampled!! I made her stay with Isaac at all times. Every time we saw them pass, she was grasping tightly to Isaac's shirt..... apparently not enjoying the chaos as much as Isaac was. At one point she got separated from Isaac and was pinned in a corner crying..... Mommy to the Rescue! Later in the day when Isaac wanted to give the playscape another go, she wanted me to go with her. So I did. I thought I might panic and need to be rescued. It was a very tall structure. I am not so fond of heights and I am VERY claustrophobic. Not my idea of fun! But my little one needed me, so sacrifices had to be made. Once we could pull Isaac away from the playscape, we did get to see some other interesting things.

Lots of hands on learning, kid size interactive areas, etc. It was a lot of fun! Of course Isaac being surrounded with all this cool space stuff decides he is most interested in riding the elevator. Seriously?! If that is all he wanted I could have taken him the mall and saved some bucks!!! He is so funny!

As with any tourist attraction the food was way over priced. So we left at lunch time, bought a few sandwiches, and had a picnic in the back of the van. That was a unique but very memorable experience. Saved us lots of money!! One sandwich in the Space Center cafe was as much as we bought lunch for our entire family.

We spent our evenings at Aunt Phyllis and Peggy's house playing Wii. I had never played one and had a grand time. Everyone else had a grand time laughing at me, especially on the driving games.

The next day we met up with Matt and April to go to the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo. It was a fun day but I could have done without the school group crowds and cold, rainy day. The kids enjoyed seeing all the animals. Matt and April paid to let Isaac make his own rope (belated birthday gift) He thought that was neat. We had to set some ground rules though..... no roping your sister or our dog!!

That evening we spent time with the Aunts, Matt, April, and Sarabeth. At one point Sarabeth became very fascinated with Oliver's crate. She opened the door and climbed right in... very proud of herself. We all got quite a kick out of that. Oliver was a bit concerned, especially when he was in there with her. He knew something just wasn't quite right.

Overall, we had a marvelous time on our little mini-vacation. Thank you Aunt Phyllis, Peggy, Matt, April, and Sarabeth for spending time with us. We really enjoyed our time in Houston!!
