Tears in the Eyes of a Seven Year Old

Yesterday as we worked through school together I was reading the story of David and Goliath to the kids. After the part where David finds the stones, Isaac says "How come in Bible times when they needed something it just appeared? That doesn't happen anymore." He's a thinker, my Isaac. What a great opportunity for me to stop and share a story with him.

Recently money has gotten tight. Well, it has always been tight. It has just gotten tighter as of late. Isaac is very well aware of this. We had an opportunity to go to a fundraiser event and were prepared to pay the money, which was going to a good cause, but to be frank the amount was a little steep for us. As we walked up to pay, someone gave Gabe the exact amount we needed. That man said that a couple had given him the money to give to a family that needed it and it just so happened to land in our hands. These people do not know our situation. God provided this for us, just like the stones for David. It was just there, right when we needed it.

As I finished this story, I turned to Isaac and said, "God is the same God today as he was when David was alive"

He had tears in his eyes. His face was red and he buried it down in his arms. He didn't say anything but he didn't have to. This simple story of God's provision touched his seven year old heart deeply. He was the recipient of the blessing that followed that gift of money. I think in this moment he grew to know his Father a little more, how He cares for our every need and blesses us sometimes just because He can.

I didn't expect Isaac to react the way he did. I am not surprised though. God is speaking to him and capturing his heart little by little. Isaac knows all the Bible stories, can tell you what he believes. His mind knows the answers, but his heart has been a little slower. I have seen instances such as these lately where I can plainly see God capturing my son's heart. God is becoming more than a far off figure from a Bible story to Isaac.  He is becoming someone who is here now and is very real and very tangible.

I am so blessed to have a front row seat in the lives of my children and their journey with the Lord. I am truly Blessed Beyond Measure.

Oh, Cheryl, what a touching story. I am in awe. God not only touched Isaac and you in that moment, but all of us who read this. A great testimony to all. Our Isaac is growing up both physically and spiritually. He has wonderful parents who gently lead him to know God.

I love you all, Ma
