Fun Week Day One: Zoo

This is our last week of summer. We officially begin our new school year next Monday. Even though we have done school throughout the summer, we have taken a few weeks off for vacation, camps, and such. So I thought it would be fun to have a little fun before our hectic fall schedule reappears.

Yesterday, we braved the heat and went to the zoo. Our main goal was to go directly to the "river" and play in the water, see a few animals along the way, and then head home. You know what they say about best laid plans. When we got there, the river was closed and didn't open until after noon. So Plan B it was. We lost a few pounds traipsing through the zoo. It was H-O-T! But we chugged a lot of water and enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.

Caleb was so darn cute. He is my animal lover. Combine that with the never ending awe over everything new and the zoo was a smashing success for him. He had so much fun and we had so much fun watching him explore. He loved the elephant, the monkeys, and the fish the most. After some minor complaints about the heat, Julia and Isaac had a lot of fun running around the zoo and exploring some areas we usually don't go to, like the bat cave. That was their favorite. Isaac wondered if they turn the lights on sometimes so those poor bats could get some sleep. Funny stuff!

After some lunch, we finally made it back to the river to find it open. We spent an hour or so there cooling off. Julia thought it would be fun to bury herself in the sand. Isaac spent the time building damns. And Caleb followed his big brother and sister around and did whatever they did.

Overall day one of our fun week was definitely that.... FUN! Wonder what fun tomorrow will bring?!
